Stride for Aggie Pride 5K with the Fam Race Recap

Stride for Pride Aggie 5K Race Recap
Last Sunday was the Stride for Aggie Pride 5K race at UC Davis. It was a smaller local race where all proceeds benefit the ASUCD Endowment fund and We Are Aggie Pride. My 6 year old had been wanting to do another 5K and since this run was so close and the registration fees were very affordable, I chose this as his next one. Turned out to be a great choice and the whole family had fun.

North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve Hike with the Fam

North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve
Another free Saturday meant another fun new hike to check out. We headed to North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve just past Oroville. This hike is neat because the terrain is different from a lot of the other hikes we've been on recently. It is more rocky and we hiked to two neat waterfalls.

Seattle Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon Training Week 3: 4/18-4/4/24

Another good week of running! In my last weekly wrap I was hoping to do more cross training, but that did not happen this week. I did get in the hike on Saturday and some nights I've been playing a little basketball with Hubby so I guess that is a little something extra. Hopefully this week, I will get in a bit more organized cross training. I would really like to get in some strength training.

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Seattle Sports Company Firewater Multi-Bottle Review

I received this product free of charge from Seattle Sports Company as coordinated by Outdoor PR in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

As many of you know, I love the outdoors. I also love water bottles. I've got a good supply of them in the kitchen cupboard. So when I saw that this bottle had multi uses I couldn't resist. Not only is it a water bottle but it is also a great light source that can be solar charged.

Valley Vista Trail Hike with the Fam

Hiking the Valley Vista Trail
We wanted to take advantage of the nice weather on Saturday so we headed out to the Valley Vista Trail in Valley Vista Regional Park. It's another hike that Hubby found on yolorhiker.org that looked reasonable for the fam to do. This one did not disappoint. Lots of great views on this one!

Seattle Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon Training Week 2: 4/11-4/17

It was a decent week of runs with friends because running is so much funner when you get to share it with others. :) I also had one great run with my fast friend Lenora. Love that she pushes me. Downside of the week, I  didn't get any cross training in. I really need to start up again. I did get in a good hike in on Saturday with the fam where I am definitely feeling soreness in my quads so I guess that is good. Goal for this week is to get some PiYo and strength training in.

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Songs on My Running Playlist

When I'm not running with friends, I've always got my music on. It helps get me through my run and keeps me moving. It's sometimes a great motivator and sometimes even makes me run faster. Here are some of my favorite songs currently on my running playlist. I realize that I don't have many newer songs on here but I'm hoping to fix that soon.

Here they are in no particular order:

Seattle Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon Training Week 1 4/4-4/10

Not a bad week of running after the Rock 'n' Roll San Francisco half marathon last weekend. If you missed my recap, you can check it out here. My next half marathon is Rock 'n' Roll Seattle in June! I'm pretty excited for this one because I'll be back in my hometown and my sister will be running it as well! I do have a 5K coming up, Stride for Aggie Pride that the fam will be doing on 4/24 and also Bay to Breakers coming up on 5/15 but both will be treated as fun runs. :)

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Race Recap 4/3/16

San Francisco Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon Race Recap
Last weekend I ran the Rock 'n' Roll San Francisco Half Marathon and it went a lot better than I expected. I was mainly scared of the hills because there are none in Davis. However, even with the hills I ran and felt strong, stronger than my last half marathon. What made this run such a great experience were the views and also meeting up with some fellow rock n bloggers and Twitter friends, oh and having VIP was a nice touch too. :)

Cache Creek Ridge Trail Backpacking Trip with the Fam

Cache Creek Ridge Trail Backpacking Trip
During the kiddos spring break, we took them on their first backpacking trip. We are planning to backpack with them multiple nights in the Tahoe area this summer and thought of this as a practice run to see if they were even capable and interested in overnight hiking trips. Backpacking is so much different because you have to carry everything on you for camping including - tent, sleeping bags, food, water, etc. For that reason, light weight gear is ideal. For our first trip, Hubby found the Cache Creek Ridge Trail for our first backpacking adventure.

Effie Yeaw Nature Center 3/24/16

Last week was my birthday and what did I do that day? Well, my favorite things of course. I ran 3 miles with the fam in the morning and also hiked in the afternoon. We checked out the Effie Yeaw Nature Center and their nature trails. We had heard from a family friend that it was a neat place to visit. The hike was closer to home, about a 42 minute drive from Davis. We found it to be a great place for kids.
