Chicago Marathon Training Week 12: 9/5-9/11

It was an ok week for week 12 of marathon training for Chicago. Just 4 weeks to go and I am getting excited. This week, I had to modify the training plan a bit with tired legs from last Sunday's 20 miler and 6+ mile hike with the fam. My legs probably needed a longer break but I think I did pretty well considering my legs did a full marathon that day. It was also a busy weekend with helping out with the kiddos school fun run and their first soccer games for the fall season.

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Monday 9/5 -
Scheduled: Off or cross training
Actual: Off
Tuesday 9/6 -
Scheduled: 1 mile w/u, 5x1 mile @ 8:13-8:23 w/ 90 sec rest, 1 mile c/d
Actual: Easy 5.5 miles. I just didn't think my legs were ready for speed work with the 20 miler and hike on Sunday.
Wednesday 9/7 -
Scheduled: 6 miles easy
Actual: 6 miles easy
Thursday 9/8 -
Scheduled: 1 mile w/u, 8 mile tempo run @ 8:41-8:51 pace, 1 mile c/d
Actual: 1 mile w/u, 8 mile tempo run. Paces at (8:51, 8:48, 8:50, 9:07, 8:56, 8:53, 8:57, 9:00). Walked a bit for c/d. So I didn't hit my paces overall but I figured I did pretty good considering the week I had and I'm glad I stuck with the workout because I was considering cutting it short.
Friday 9/9 -
Scheduled: Off or cross training
Actual: Off
Saturday 9/10 -
Scheduled: 7 miles easy
Actual: 3 miles. It was such a busy day that 3 was all I could fit in.
Sunday 9/11 -
Scheduled: 16 mile long run - all easy pace @ 9:40-10:44
Actual: 16 mile long run

As to the weekend, it started out with the kiddos school fun run. I was there from 6am-12pm helping set up and coordinating all of the recreation events (bouncy houses, DJ, and dunk tank) and making sure the volunteers were where they needed to be etc. It was a great event and there was an awesome turnout. The kiddos had fun too. They both ran the 100 yard dash (7 year old was hoping to run the mile but couldn't due to his first soccer game).
The dunk tank was a hit and all of the kids enjoyed dunking whoever was in the tank, especially the school principal.
Luckily, I was able to see both the kiddos soccer games in the afternoon. They both did great!
After their games, I was pretty pooped from all of the morning/afternoon events. Took some time to rest, then after dinner, ran 3 miles. It was all I could fit in with the busy day we had.

Sunday morning started out with my 16 mile long run. It went well and it is always nice to end it seeing Hubby and the kiddos. We ended up hanging out at the playground and the kiddos playing with some neighborhood friends.
My kids really enjoy playing on the bars. Even if it isn't the traditional way. They like to get creative. :)
The rest of the day consisted of errands, football, relaxing, and 7 year old's soccer practice. That pretty much sums up my week! Linking this post up with HoHo Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for their Weekly Wrap.
Have a great week!
