Chicago Marathon Training Week 16 and Weekly Wrap: 10/3-10/9

What a week! I can now say I'm a marathoner! :) My time in Chicago was a blast! It was great seeing running friends and making new ones. I got to spend the whole weekend with my sis, we both ran the marathon and it was so nice exploring the city together. Look out for the recap of my first marathon sometime this week on the blog.

Here's what last week's workouts leading up to the Chicago Marathon looked like:

Chicago Marathon Training Week 15: 9/26-10/2

Week 15 of Chicago marathon training is in the books. It went well and I got in the runs scheduled except added a few extra miles for the week with the Rock'n'Roll San Jose half marathon yesterday! I can't believe that I'll be running my first full marathon in just 6 days! I am excited about heading to Chicago not just for the run but to see the city since it will be my first time there!

Chicago Marathon Training Week 14: 9/19-9/25

Less than 2 weeks to go before I will be running the streets of Chicago. Well, 13 days to be exact. :) I am getting excited. I had an ok week of training. I'm saying ok because I missed my long run yesterday but I did make up those miles today so I feel better. I'm enjoying the taper as it is nice that my weekly mileage has decreased. I do have Rock 'n' Roll San Jose coming up on Sunday so I am excited about that. No worries, I'm not racing that one. It will be a nice comfortable run for me since I want to have somewhat fresh legs for Chicago.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 13: 9/12-9/18

Week 13 of Chicago marathon training went pretty good. I got in all the running workouts including my second 20 miler! Three more weeks until the big day! I am getting excited! I'm also ready to taper. I do have a race to look forward to the week before the marathon. I will be running Rock 'n' Roll San Jose as an easy run which should be fun!

Chicago Marathon Training Week 12: 9/5-9/11

It was an ok week for week 12 of marathon training for Chicago. Just 4 weeks to go and I am getting excited. This week, I had to modify the training plan a bit with tired legs from last Sunday's 20 miler and 6+ mile hike with the fam. My legs probably needed a longer break but I think I did pretty well considering my legs did a full marathon that day. It was also a busy weekend with helping out with the kiddos school fun run and their first soccer games for the fall season.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 11: 8/29-9/4

Another good week of training done! I got in all of my scheduled runs but did make a few modifications. I ran my first 20 miler Sunday and even went on a hike to some beautiful lakes with the fam that put my mileage for Sunday over a full marathon. Crazy yes, but it was well worth it! :)

Chicago Marathon Training Week 10: 8/22-8/28

It was another good week of training last week! It was a cutback week so lesser miles which was nice so I could give my legs a bit more rest especially with the miles I'll be putting on in the upcoming weeks. I can't believe the Chicago Marathon is coming up in just 6 more weeks!

Chicago Marathon Training Week 9: 8/15-8/21

It's been a great week away in the Pacific Northwest. Not only did we stay in the Seattle area but we also headed south to Oregon to visit my sister. It wasn't a planned trip but when her son fractured his arm, we ended up going there instead of him staying in Seattle. It all worked out fine and it was great to see their new place. I got in all of my running workouts in too which was great. I also got to run my 18 mile long run with my sister and it went really well.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 8: 8/8-8/14

It's been another busy week! We are currently in Seattle on our last trip before school starts. I managed to get all my runs in this week but I did have to make some modifications.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 7: 8/1-8/7

Last week was another busy week in the books. I got in most of my running workouts for marathon training in and felt pretty good about them. Ran 800's for the first time and survived, and also got in a good 5 miles at a decent pace. We went to Yosemite National Park at the end of the week which is amazing and I'm very happy I got in my 15 mile long run!

Chicago Marathon Training Week 6: 7/25-7/31

It's been a busy but fun week! We were in Anaheim most of the week at Disneyland/California Adventure and had a blast! The Disney parks are so much fun! As to marathon training, I modified my training plan so it went with my sister's, I figure it wouldn't hurt to change my schedule a bit this week. It was so nice running with her! It's a cut back week for me and I think it went well considering we were away on vacation most of the week.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 5: 7/18-7/24

Week 5 of Chicago Marathon training went pretty good. I got in all of my training runs in for the week and I was even able to get in a little extra mileage in on Tuesday with two runs for the day. I didn't get any cross training in this week other than some extra walking with the kiddos due to playing PokemonGo so cross training is something I still need to work on. I would really like to get in more strength training but that probably won't happen this week as we will be at Disneyland most of the week.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 4: 7/11-7/17

It's been a busy week, which explains why my weekly wrap post is a bit late but better late than never right? Last week went ok marathon training-wise. After having a double race weekend with both the Davis Moonlight Run Half marathon and the Across the Bay 12K, my legs were pretty darn tired. I modified my plan a bit this week to recover and with backpacking and hiking all weekend had to skip on my long run.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 3: 7/4-7/10

With two races over the weekend, I modified my marathon training plan quite a bit. My plan was to run hard on Saturday's half marathon and then easy on Sunday, opposite of my training plan but I wanted to see if I could PR on Saturday's half and this was my best chance this year. My next planned half is RnR San Jose in October but it is the week before the marathon and it is going to be treated as an easy training run. I'm pretty happy with how things went this weekend and now with these races out of the way, I can concentrate on marathon training.

Here's a recap of what I did last week:

Chicago Marathon Training Week 2: 6/27-7/3

Happy 4th of July! Last week was a great week of workouts! I managed to get in two sessions of cross training working on my core and I also did a better job of following my pace times in my RunnersConnect marathon training schedule. I did manage 111 miles total for the month of June. I'm always happy when I reach over 100 miles and I'm thinking with marathon training I will have no problem reaching over 100 miles in July.

Chicago Marathon Training Week 1: 6/20-6/26

Last week started my training for the Chicago Marathon. I still can't believe I am training for my first full marathon! I did finally decide on a training plan and I am going with the one I found on Runner'sConnect (their free 16 week basic marathon intermediate 1). It seems like a good plan and I like how it shows the paces you should be running, although I need to do a better job of running the easy pace. I just watched the videos on the site yesterday, and I clearly should be running easy even if it is hard for me to do so.
