Asbury Park Half Marathon Training Week 1: 3/16-3/22

With last week's excitement of the NYC Half Marathon dying down, I've got the Asbury Park Half marathon next up on April 18th to think about and train for. With it less than a month away, I'm just going to go back to Hal Higdon's Intermediate training schedule and follow that as a guide for Asbury. I'm at week 9 and I've already made modifications. I took some rest days this week to recover from last Sunday's half and did not add any cross training but I still got some good runs in.

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Monday 3/16 - Rest day
Tuesday 3/17 - Walked 2.3 miles
Wednesday 3/18 - 3 mile run
Thursday 3/19 - 3.5 mile run with friends
Friday 3/20 - Rest day. I can't believe we got about 4 inches of snow. The kiddos had fun playing in it, so I guess that is a plus. I sure hope this is the last of it.
Saturday 3/21 - 5 mile run
Sunday 3/22 - 9 mile long run
I was pretty happy with my long run especially with just having ran the half marathon last weekend. It was a nice day out but still cold especially with the wind. I'm really hoping that warmer temps come and stay.

As to the weekend, it was pretty good. A lot of the weekend was spent watching the NCAA Basketball tournament as hubby has a bracket and of course we can't miss the important games. :p He did pick the Wichita State upset so that was pretty cool.
Saturday afternoon/evening we did go to a friends house for dinner. They recently bought a new place so it was neat checking out their new home. The kiddos were having way too much fun at the kid's table. At one point a majority of them were laughing non-stop.
Had to post these pretzels as they looked so good! Oh and they tasted yummy too! :)
On Sunday we went on a fun family hike at Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve. It was a beautiful sunny day and a little on the cold side with the wind, but we still wanted to take the kids out on a new hike. Here is a pic from the hike. I'll be doing a full trip report for the blog soon!

  1. Looks like you had a wonderful, fit week! I'm loving these photos from your hikes! I'm originally from CT (and live in San Diego now), and as much as I love warm, sunshine-y weather year-round, I'd be lying if I said photos like these didn't make me miss CT. Have a great week!

  5. Thanks Gloria!! It is nice to have all the seasons here in NJ (although spring seems to be late this year) but it must be pretty cool to have nice weather all the time. I'm jealous that you live in San Diego. :) You too, have a great week!

  6. It is pretty ridiculous that spring is so late this year. I can't wait till the flowers and trees start blooming. The hike was fun and I'm so happy that the kiddos enjoy being outdoors and can still have fun while hiking. Have a great week!

  8. Ah thanks! That is awesome that your parents did that. I grew up with parents that did not hike so I figure this is the best way to get my kiddos into enjoying the outdoors early and hopefully it sticks. I see it has with you so that keeps me optimistic. :) Hope you get to go mountain trail running soon! That sounds like so much fun!
