Davis Turkey Trot 5K w/ the Fam 11/23/19

Here's another very late race recap but I figure it's better late than never. I ran the Davis Turkey Trot 5K with my 8 year old. Hubby ran it too but raced it on his own. The Turkey trot 5K was a great race for us! It's my second time doing the race. I ran it with my eldest son in 2016 and you can read the recap here. It was so fun to run it with my youngest this time and he definitely surprised me at the finish on this one. :)

Bib pickup was morning of the race. With it being a local race, we didn't have to get there too early. Pickup was fast and easy.
Start time was 8am. We were there probably 20 minutes early so we had some time to kill. It was nice out but a bit chilly with temps in the low 40s. Here's a shot at the start.
Below is a shot of me and my running buddy. His goal was to beat his time from the Moonlight Run we did last July. He was ready!
The race started a few minutes late. According to my Garmin we crossed the start line at 8:04am. It was fun running with my youngest. As you can see it was a beautiful morning to run a 5k.
 The course was well marked.
My son was doing awesome! First mile came in at 8:13. I was worried he would fade but he kept at it. He was in good spirits and even smiled for the camera. :)
He did fade a bit in mile 2 coming in at 8:31 but managed to pick up the pace in the last mile.
Mile 3 came in at 8:03! While the last .1 at 6:27 pace! He was smoking fast! You can even see it in the video taken by Hubby right before we crossed the finish line. He definitely took me by surprise as I had to keep up with him.
He finished in 26:01.29. I came in at 26:01:50 and Hubby came in at 21:02:26! Both my youngest and Hubby ran their fastest 5k races! So proud of both of them. We all placed in our age groups as well which was a nice surprise for me.
Some family shots with our medals. Our other son did not run as he was competing in a math competition where he ended up placing for his grade too!
There were lots of goodies at the end. I remember having some hot chocolate and cookies. There were even pancakes at another booth.
The Davis Turkey Trot is definitely a run I would do again. It was so much fun for the fam and l love that it is local. Maybe next year I will race it? We shall see.
Happy running!
