Last Week's Workouts and Weekend Update 7/6-7/12

Here's a recap of last week's workouts:

Monday 7/6 - Rest
Tuesday 7/7 - 6 mile run
Wednesday 7/8 - 3 mile run
Thursday 7/9 - 5 mile run
Friday 7/10 - Rest
Saturday 7/11 - 9 mile long run with friends
Sunday 7/12 - Rest

Another ok week of workouts for me. It's been great running just to run, but I think next week I'll start my half marathon training for the Brooklyn Rock and Roll Half Marathon in October. I do have Beat the Blerch in September but I'm thinking of that as a fun run and will treat it as a training run. I'm going to go with a new training plan from the MyAsics App. I like how it has the pace that I should be running it in. Note: I put 1:54:00 as my goal time but for some reason it calculated that my goal should be an even faster time. I guess after having run my last half marathon in 1:56:15, the app thinks I should have a better goal. :p Here is what next week will look like for me:
I will probably make adjustments to the schedule but it will be interesting to follow a different training plan.

As to the weekend, I started out Saturday morning with an early morning run with some friends at Mercer County Park. We met at 6am and this was the earliest I've ran this summer. It was hard getting up, but worth it in the end. It is always fun running with friends and I just felt great afterwards. So nice to have ran 9 miles before 8am.
The rest of the day was pretty relaxing. Hubby had to go into work for a couple of hours but when he came back, we hit the pool.
On Sunday, with the weather forecast being pretty warm and nice, we decided to hit the beach. We ended up checking out Island Beach State Park. It was actually really nice and we enjoyed this beach a lot!
Not only was it cheaper (only $10 per vehicle if you are a NJ Resident vs. $10 per person 12 and up at other beaches) the beach was perfect for the kiddos. The water was shallow and the kiddos can go out further compared to some of the other beaches we've gone to (Point Pleasant area) where the water was not shallow for long. You go out a bit and it is already deep.
The kiddos had a blast! They played in the sand and also had fun in the water and jumping when the waves came. I played a lot and also relaxed. I even took a short nap under our beach umbrella. :)
It was an awesome beach day!

That sums up the weekend! Linking this post up with Tara at Running N’ Reading for her Weekend Update.

  1. That looks like a beautiful beach park! and a great family day! I love a little snooze under the umbrella! Great job on the miles too, there is nothing better than getting those miles in before half the world rolls out of bed!

It's never easy waking up early, but it's always the best feeling when you have your run done so early in the day, especially on weekend:) Can't wait to follow your half training!

  8. Beach day is the perfect way to end an active week of training! That app looks pretty cool. Does it talk to you while you're running so you know whether you have to speed up or slow down or do you just read it? Either way, looks pretty cool!

  9. So nice you and the fam were able to go to the beach and pool! Maybe next training cycle I may use an App - I like how you can track it from there. Very excited for everyone running RnR Brooklyn! Like to see it how it compares to NYRR Brooklyn!
